A Step by Step Guide to
Backloops, Forward Loops & Transitions
Many kitesurfers master the fundamentals, and can comfortably cruise around and try the odd jump, but then struggle to move any further. Progression: Intermediate has help thousands of kitesurfers to take the next step and start learning tricks with rotations.
We focuses on three manoeuvres; back loop, forward loop, and transitions. Looking at each in detail and breaking them down into simpler progressions - starting small and work your way up to high jumps with multiple rotations and maybe even the odd grab thrown in!
Stunning photography presents each manoeuvre in perfect clarity. Coupled with our presentational techniques, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of each manoeuvre than you ever thought possible.
If you’re still learning to jump or want some help with general riding technique then check out
Progression: Beginner, or maybe your back rolls are perfect and you’re looking to try some kiteloops or unhooked raileys, in which case
Progression: Advanced might be more your thing.
The feature movie is 86 minutes long, and covers back loops, forward loops and transitions. This may seem a lot of time dedicated to 3 relatively simple tricks but performing your first rotations can be a daunting experience and one which leaves many disorientated and full of frustration. Progression Intermediate aims to slowly build up your confidence and kite awareness, whilst spinning under the kite. Once mastered your kite handling skills will have developed leaps and bounds and you’ll be ready to start experiencing a whole new side of kitesurfing.
Here’s a quick breakdown of each of the chapters:
Back Loop

- Then we in introduce the kite and start getting rotations with more height
- Common Mistakes - solutions to the most common mistakes including over and under rotating.
- In the advanced section we’ll look at multiple rotations, grabs and launch and landing to toeside.
Forward loop
- Again we focus on the body movements and their importance on the rotation
- Then we introduce the kite to start getting rotations with more height
- Common Mistakes - solutions to the most common mistakes including over and under rotating.
- In the advanced section we’ll look at multiple rotations and grabs

"The guys from fatsand productions have presented us with the world’s first instructional kiteboarding DVD that is actually worth buying."
"I have found this DVD to be immensely helpful. Learning tricks from a DVD like the Boost series or from magazine motor drive shots are just not possible for most of us.
Kiteboarding Progression is aimed at those many riders who take lessons in the beginning, only to find themselves hitting a plateau months later, unable to progress."

"The Video has a routine were it breaks the steps down to the Basics and repeat itself over and over so you are sure to get the idea. I liked the video very much; my skills before the video were at the novice level and stagnant. I found it very difficult trying to teach myself new tricks out of the magazines. … [Progression], for me it has opened a whole other world of kiteboarding."
